Well, it was a nice weekend. I was looking for good excuses to go driving in my car, Thelma, so I took the kids out to Florissant on Saturday to visit my mom. Jackie and Dax drove a remote controlled car around on the patio while mom took my car for a test drive to Walgreens.
It was a beautiful day. After the kids got done playing with the car, we went inside to play some games. I talked Mom into going out to Sioux Passage Park to take the kids to their magnificent playground. Their playground is 10 times better than any playground I know of in South County.
They ran around screaming like little banshees. There was two tree forts, two covered wagons, a giant slide, monkey bars..climbing equipment, and 3 lookout spots.
Mom shared her popcorn chicken with me. She was hungry so wed stopped by KFC. I wasnt hungry until I saw her eating that barbecued chicken sandwich. It looked yummy.
After the kids played themselves out, I decided to stop by Ms. Terrys house. Ms. Terry lives about 10 minutes from my moms house, and about the same distance from the park. This was sort of a hard decision to make since I have not talked to her since I sent her that letter asking her to stop nagging me. My mom decided to tag along.
I ended up parking my car on the street since there was this huge Chrysler Sebring convertible in the driveway. My mom called Ms. Terrys number and told one of the kids, probably ManMan, to tell Ms. Terry to go to the door.
When she opened the door and saw Jackie, this huge grin appeared on her face. She seemed genuinely thrilled that we stopped by. Man-man, Lewis (my godson) and this little boy named James greeted us at the door. We were ushered in quickly.
Jackie and Max went to play in Lewis room while us adults chatted like a couple of old biddies. Lots of cackling and giggling was to be heard.
I finally told her that Id gotten a new car. She said, Me too! Turns out the Sebring was her new car. She had finally gotten rid of that old Monte Carlo SS, which was the bane of her existence for years. Her son Randy had bought the new car for her, on the condition that she had to get rid of the SS.
Would you all like some bratwurst? Ms. Terry asked while pulling a tray out of the broiler. Bratwurst? I love Bratworst..so I was game. Dax didnt eat any and neither did Jackie. I had two and so did my mom. I was hungrier than I thought.
Later, when it was time to go, I went back to Ms. Terrys room. She had some papers in her lap. I sat beside her and she reached out her beautiful caramel hand, with beautiful manicured nails, to my hand and grabbed it.
Melissa, Im very sorry I sounded so bossy to you. Thats the last thing I want to be! I just didnt want you making the same bad mistakes I madeI felt so bad when I read that letter. I told her it was okay. She held my hand for a while longer and let go of it.
It was time to go. But I promised I wouldnt stay gone for so long the next time.
It was getting late. It was 5:30 p.m. and I knew Daxs mom, Romy, was going to be home soon. Mom had me drive me by the dollar store, since she had broken her hairbrush. I didnt go inside because it wouldve taken us longer.
We still had 45 minutes of driving ahead. We dropped my mom off and scooted out of there.
We got home around 7:15.
Mr. Sweatpants stopped by about 8:15. I decided to treat him to Subway for dinner. So, we all went for a little drive. We got Jackie Taco Bell, and Rene and I had sub sandwiches. We watched Riding in Cars with Boys, which is one of my favorite movies.
It was a nice end to a nice day.
Sunday, Dax went to a friends house, so it was just Jackie and I. We drove down to my grandmas house and we had breakfast with her. As usual, Id picked up food before I got to her house. Today, Id gotten her a big breakfast, which is eggs, pancakes, hash brown, sausage and a biscuit.
Then, I swept and mopped the floors and took her trash out.
She didnt understand why I had to go. I explained to her that I had laundry to do, gerbil cages to clean and a dirty house. It was going on 1:00 p.m. and it was time to go. I felt bad, but I have a life too. This was my 4th straight weekend going to Grandmas, and I am exhausted.
I go because I love her, and she was my real mothers mom, and she took such good care of us when we were kids. However, Im also a working single parent, and Id like to spend a Sunday alone with my daughter if I could. I hope that doesnt sound selfish.
Im tired too. Ive been babysitting every weekend since the 28th of June. I will baby-sit every weekend until Romy finds a new full time job during the week. I promised Ms. Terry a few years ago that Id return the favor she did me by watching Jackie, to someone else. Plus, Dax is really an easy kid.
When Jackie and I got back home, I cleaned out all the animal cages. There are, count them, 7 cages. The bald rat (Archibald), the other rat (Chedda), the hamster (Fred), the guinea pig (RoseMary), the gerbils (Saturday and Blizzard), more gerbils (Rene and Shadow) and one girlie gerbil, Stormy.
Then, Jackie went to Arielles while I did laundry. That was a chore.
On a completely unrelated subject, Ive been looking on www.fragrancenet.com for perfumes. It got me thinking about perfumes that Ive worn in my lifetime. First, there was Electric Youth, then Vanilla Fields, then Jessica McClintock, then Tresor, then Beautiful by Estee Lauder, then Colors by Bennetton, then Sunflowers, then Escape by Calvin Klein, then Eternity by Calvin Klein, then Obsession, then Azzura, and now there is Gucci Rush. Im now trying to decide between Armanis Mania, or Glamorous by Ralph Lauren. I love my smell good. Fragrancenet has some really good prices and hard to find perfumes. Check it out!
