My sister left a message on my machine yesterday:
Sis, hey, this is Mindy. We have been told to evacuate the Tampa Bay area, so I am leaving and going to higher ground. Ill call you when I get a chance
This freaked me out. Plus, I check cnn.com this morning and find out Hurricane Charley is supposed to make landfall in Tampa of all places. They havent been directly hit by a hurricane in 80 years. It is a category 3 hurricane right now. CBS News says MacDill Air Force base will most likely be underwater when the Hurricane hits, which means my sister will possibly lose everything she owns.
I remember when we evacuated for Hurricane Floyd in 1999. I was scared to death. A record 1.3 million people evacuated Florida east coast that day.
Nothing like sitting on the interstate during the largest evacuation in Florida history and tornadoes start touching down. Ill never forget how scared I was.
So, my prayers are with my sister right now.
On another note, I didnt give Iris the letter yet. It just didnt seem like the right time. However, she felt free to be snippy with me and hang up on me last night when I called to let her know Romy was picking Jackie up at noon and taking her out to lunch.
Why does she think I have to take her abuse? She probably thinks I have no choice because I dont have anyone else to watch Jackie. Little does she know.
So, I revised the letter. Brandi-babe said it sounded pretty negative for someone whos obviously going through a lot. Good advice! I never wanted to letter to have a negative connotation. In fact, I tried to be gentle but I was obviously not trying hard enough.
Thanks for the advice.
